The Watch HIll Foundation was proud to loan 10 works by Belkis Ayon Manso to the 59th Venice Biennale, to be displayed in their central exhibition in the Giardini. The 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, titled The Milk of Dreams, will took place between the 23rd of April and the 27th November 2022 in the Central Pavilion (Giardini), in the Arsenale, and at various sites around Venice.
It included over 200 artists from 58 countries, with 180 participating for the first time.
The Exhibition focused on three main themes: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; the connection between bodies and the Earth. These themes were stongly conplimented by the work of Belkis Ayon Manso.
As explained by Cecilia Alemani, the curator of the Biennalle:
“The Milk of Dreams imagines a transhistorical journey that does not revolve around systems of direct inheritance or conflict, but around forms of symbiosis, solidarity, and sisterhood, meeting along the way artists who have radically reinvented the categories of the human and the self”.
The Watch Hill Foundation created a feature booklet, with an original essay by Orlando Hernandez to commemorate the exhibition. Find a free digital version below or contact us to enquire about a hardcopy.
